The deisel performance shop said dont worry about the check engine light being on because the valve only works at idle, when it works anyways.But if the solonoid is stuck, you don't know if the valve is stuck open or closed. The EGR valve is a serviceable item, but the actual solonoid for them is not. What normally happens is the valve gets clogged up with soot and sticks open. This can cause low boost conditions as well as a rough idle and funny idle noises in some cases of the valve blowing open at an idle. The EGR valve can open at ANY time the engine is running at normal engine temps, not just at an idle. The best otpion is to block it, but you can also remove the EGR valve and clean it with engine degreaser(A friend of mine swears by oven cleaner to clean them when they are really gunked up). Also make sure it is running the latest flash available from GM as the latest flash for them specifically adresses the EGR valve issue with them sooting up and it adds in an EGR cleaning cycle to help avoid it from happening again.

I have the same truck and surprised the performance shop didnt suggest doing the EGR delete. The blocker plate is what I have now, but I also have EFI live tuning that also deletes the code. I would go that route because the egr pollutes your engine by the recycle of exhaust and causes other problems down the road.

I just ordered the complete delete kit that will replace the egr valve and clean up the engine bay as well. Your 6.6 will love you by blocking or deleting the egr. So did it help you? You need the plate as well as tuning to disable the EGR codes. With a blocked EGR and no tuning you will have a CEL in no time. EFI live is obviously the best option, but IMO is a total waste if your not looking for all out performance. PPE (Pacific Performance Engineering) makes programmers that block the EGR codes as well as adding performance. I'm currently running a PPE Xcelerator on my truck with no EGR, PCV, or Cat, and zero codes.
